The deal struck by Google and Twitter to start showing tweets on the search engine results page, has become a reality. Starting today, any U.S. based user can search Google for relevant tweets. You can only do it in English. The other catch, you must use a mobile device with the Google App. I used Safari on my iPhone to and it worked. A desktop version will be coming soon.
How long does it takes for tweets to appear on Google?
I decided to try and see how long it would take for my tweet to appear on Google. I was surprised, the results are in real time. Google has deeply integrated Twitter’s real-time content into Google search.
On their blog today, Twitter gave this example: if you’re interested in hearing more from #TaylorSwift, a quick search on Google will pull up her most recent Tweets. Or, if you’re a TV buff, a search for#MadMen will bring up the most relevant news and Tweets about Sunday’s series finale. When tapping on a Tweet in Google search, you’ll be taken directly to Twitter where you can view the Tweet and discover additional content.
If you use a Google the Google app, you can speak into the microphone and ask the app to show you Tweets from specific account. You will see the Tweets on the Google search engine results page. This is great if you are following someone and just want to look at their tweets right away.
Read what the Google blog wrote: Let’s say you are interested in updates on the NBA playoffs, you’ll have access to it directly from Google. Let’s use NASA as an example—just ask the Google app about “NASA Twitter,” and in the search results, you’ll see Tweets from @NASA. Or if you heard today was Malcolm X’s birthday, you can ask the Google app and see what various people and organizations in the Twitter community are saying about it.
This will be a great way to reach a much bigger audience. If you are not on Twitter yet, I suggest it is time to create an account. Try it out and let me know what Twitter #hashtag you used and what the results were.
While you are at it, feel free to follow me on Twitter and I will follow you back. @mralexmiranda
